Ooh baby, I like it RAW!!

@revrunwisdom tweeted earlier that winners use exclamation points, re: blog title.

Recently, I’ve discovered a craving for knowledge of how to prepare delicious raw foods. Don’t you just love how your thoughts connect with everything around you and things just start to manifest? Erika, my Intensati instructor calls it “sick magic”. Literally this morning as I lay in bed giving my traditional gratitude, checking twitter, and setting the tone for the day, I put it out there that I really wanted to learn how to prepare raw foods. My morning rooftop meditation was extended – did more yoga than usual, even added some more traditional stretches in the mix. Ate a simple and hearty breakfast. My day was starting off right.

A few hours in and @boomthreads tweets a link to raw food recipes! I @replied with amazement and gratitude.

Later in the day, after my Penn Station area stops (Fractured Atlas, B&H, Chase), I had begun an sms conversation that I wanted to continue a bit before going below ground back on the iron horse to Brooklyn. I decided to wade the time by multi-tasking at Borders. I searched for the food section. I got stopped momentarily by the business management stacks, then into creative software tutorial world, then finally found myself among all the recipes my heart could desire. The gem that spoke directly to me:

This book goes into detail about how Raw is a way of life. It touches on overall health and how yoga promotes various levels of health. It…well, I should say, “she” goes into detail about all the ways to combine certain types of foods, she defines raw lifestyle, and even gives a list of what a raw foodist should have in their kitchen. And, of course, she lists some pretty incredible sounding recipes. And she uses pictures, which I LUV in a cookbook (or, non-cook book)! I mean she really, really breaks it down. I was so inspired and compelled, I held the book tight in my arms after sitting in the cafe chair reading it for 15 minutes, and took it downstairs to the checkout line.

And then I read the back. Twenty-six dollars? Eh, lemme just write down the name of this book and check it out on Amazon when I get home.

Well, I’m home. Priced on Amazon at $13.75

Who’s a winner?

A Great Day to be Born

I got a call at 6:30 this morning from a then pregnant Luchana. They were on their way to the hospital. I sent out prayers, affirmations and positive thoughts and solicited more of the same via txt messages, facebook and twitter. And, at 9:17am on Tuesday, May 19th 2009, Renee Doris Marie Caviness was born.

On this day 84 years ago, baby Malcolm Little was born and would grow to be El Hajj Malik Shabazz, better known as Malcolm X. He would stand for the freedom of many, to be remembered, studied, loved and revered.

Below is a video sent on twitter by @zaheerali of a secret audio recording of Brother Malcolm meeting with a couple of members of the FBI. They really tried to insult his intelligence. You have to listen to it. The nerve! Proof that the brother was committed. Unwavering. Steady. Reliable. Worthy.

Happy Malcolm X Day. And welcome to the world, Baby Renee!
