For da kids

A good Saturday evening. Revisited locations for an upcoming music video shoot for Jason Linder and Michelle N’degeocello for which I am art directing. Figured out some techniques…got more work to do. Some more things to figure out before June 7th. Should be exciting, though. (Don’t I sound vague!?) Gritty. Pretty. Raw.

In other news, the Liberator Magazine / Lesedi Film Center collabo fundraiser at Live From Planet Earth went well. People were loving it, and it looks like we got another prospective sight because of it – in addition to some kind donations.
Thank you, you know who you are – for your support.

To the future…to the children…to all the dancers of the world…the musicians…we love you. we need you. we’ll do our best to feed you – expecting nothing but you, actualized.

Call me corny

…but I think one of the greatest pleasures of teaching young people to make films, is seeing the manifestation of learned lessons in teamwork. Today Ezra and Adam were grouped in Video Art class. Each group had to pick a word at random and create a video based on the word. They got the word: alone. Admittedly, not the most exciting for a pair of tween boys. They bumped heads. One was blamed for “not participating”. Another was charged with “changing the story”.
I sat them down for some “real talk” on the process of working together – deciding to complete a project – agreeing, even if to disagree – and standing behind their work with the understanding that the end product is what will speak for them in the eyes of many. They toughed it out, completed their storyboard and they shot. And they shot and they shot and they shot. Didn’t finish until ten minutes after the class was over.

Also on top of the ‘joys of teaching film to young people’ list would be seeing what these young people end up creating. Their minds are like wildfires.
